Teaching Philosophy

Canberk teaches the Armenian duduk tradition that has been passed down through his former teacher Suren Asaduryan. His musical approach has also been deeply influenced by the playing of legendary Armenian duduk masters including Vache Hovsepyan and Djivan Gasparyan.

While his artistic work today also explores improvisation, electronics and contemporary music, his teaching remains firmly rooted in traditional Armenian duduk technique. Students first develop a solid technical foundation before expanding towards their own musical expression.

Rather than rushing into melodies and sheet music, lessons focus on what truly defines the duduk: sound. Breath control, embouchure, intonation, tuning, phrasing and tone production form the core of Canberk's teaching. Once the instrument begins to respond naturally, learning repertoire becomes both easier and more meaningful.
